Reporting on week 1 of the money from nothing challenge

Week one of this four-week challenge ended with no progress made on either goal. Here is what I did each day:

Day 1: April 14, 2026

The makeup bag was photographed and listed for $5.00 firm. I then turned to the one way I have to make money without spending a penny, online AVON sales. I signed up to sell AVON over three years ago, but never really did it as more than a hobby. I’ve pretty much only done enough to get my own products free to me, and a nice discount on some gifts I purchased for others. As of the beginning of this year, I was $28.96 ahead between commissions, free products, and rep only discounts on outside items I would have purchased anyway.

Should some AVON sales come in due to my posted links, that would help me accomplish two tasks at once. I could earn enough commission to get my products free to me, and earn additional money to meet my $325 blessing goal.

Day 2: Wednesday April 15, 2026

It was one of those days that was full of so many other things, I barely had time to think about the challenge. I’m finishing up a blog similar to the 315, but for a client. That needed attention. I had to teach three classes for a local university, and I had a checkup at the doctor’s office that ran an hour and a half late. Still, I wanted to do something for the challenge, so I posted the makeup bag in a few buy and sell groups in addition to facebook marketplace, and I posted a promo announcement in my AVON customers group.

Day 3: Thursday April 16, 2026

As of the end of the day, there were four views on the makeup bag on facebook marketplace, but no offers. As I went to supplement things, get things started already, with points, I noticed that I am getting a lot of scam emails related to point programs. I legitimately have Rakuten cash back, Fetch Rewards, Microsoft Rewards, Capital One Shopping Rewards, AARP Rewards, and Walgreens cash back. Since I started this challenge, I am already noticing emails and pop ups about “rewards” from these programs that turn out not to be real when I go directly to the app.

This is definitely a challenge that is going to take some strategy.

Day 4: Friday April 17,2026

Four days in, nothing has moved. The makeup bag hasn’t sold, I don’t have enough free points anywhere to redeem for anything that would help, and nobody has bought any AVON. I’m not even sure the article announcing the challenge has been shown to anyone so far.

Day 5: Saturday April 15, 2026

Today was another day that I waited and waited and waited for something to happen. Nothing did. No AVON sales. Nine people looked at the ad for the makeup bag. Nobody wanted it. The only progress in the challenge so far was me posting it on ebay.

Day 6: April 19, 2026

There is still no activity on the challenge. Nobody bought any AVON. Nobody bought the makeup bag. But my post in one of the larger groups did get approved, so maybe this is the way to turn things around.

Day 7 April 20, 2026

The only thing that happened that’s even remotely relevant is that I learned a way to play with the color of my hair without actually coloring it. I did not know there was a such thing as hair treatment masks that deposited some color into the hair until I saw a YouTube video on the channel “Budget Glam Babe,” titled “5 Products that Saved My Hair.” The host, Kim, featured a brush and shampoo that helped fight her hair breakage, and a few cosmetics, namely color depositing hair masks in place of actual hair color. I will certainly stop using hair color and instead start using these. Now I don’t have to buy a separate hair mask and I can play with the shade of red. This allowed me to amend my list and reduce the overall cost of what I would need to obtain with nothing but a makeup bag for sale and some free points from a collection of points programs.

Current list:

Burgundy hair mask: $15
Ginger red hair mask: $15
Haircut: $60
Black mascara (AVON): $19
Black eyeliner (AVON): $9
Brown eyeliner (AVON): $9
Gray eyeliner (AVON): $9
Red lipstick (AVON):$15
Pink lipstick (AVON): $15
Red lip gloss (AVON): $15
Peach/pink lip gloss (AVON): $15
Imari fragrance (AVON):$32
Timeless fragrance (AVON): $20

New total: $248 (r/up): $250

This means..should the challenge succeed in the end.. I’ll be offering someone else $250 instead of $325 dollars...but it will be free cash...so I’m sure...someone will gladly accept it.
